Frequently Asked Questions
How do I commission a painting from you?
Just send me an e-mail or telephone me. I can meet you to discuss the commission without any obligation.
What size of murals or ceilings can you undertake?
No commission is too big or too small. I have undertaken commissions that have lasted four years.
Who are your clients?
I have a diverse range of clients from heads of state, peers of the realm, shipping tycoons, celebrities, head of fashion houses, icons from the music business etc. Most of my clients request confidentiality and I abide by this.
How long does a commission take?
When I have understood the nature of the commission and seen the site, I can usually estimate how long it will take.
How much do you charge?
My answer could be ‘how long is a piece of string?’ because, of course, the cost depends on how large the commission it, how detailed, where the location is and so on.
People always think that I am going to be frightfully expensive. The reality is that I do not charge as much as you may think. However, I realise that you will need to set a budget and I can work with you on setting this.
What research do you undertake?
If doing a mural or ceiling, I undertake research in order to put the painting into its historical context, if that is your wish. I believe that a mark of my success is if your friends were to enter your house, see the mural and think that you inherited it with the house.
What materials do you use?
I can work in any materials, especially acrylics and oils, but I prefer to work principally in oils.
What is the cost of the materials?
I can give you a price. I am able to get substantial discounts from the retail price of materials.
Can you work from photographs?
Yes I can, especially when painting animals.
What animals can you paint?
Absolutely anything – birds, fish, insects as well as mammals.
What if I live a long way from London?
When undertaking a long commission. I become an artist in residence. By living with you, I understand your desires and wishes. If you do not have space for me, I can live elsewhere but I do prefer to stay with you.
Do you travel abroad?
Yes. The country where I have most painted, after the United Kingdom, is in fact France.
What is a trompe l’oeil?
It is a painting designed to be a trick of the eye. I create an optical illusion by painting an object, which appears to be three-dimensional rather than two-dimensional
